Start your Own #Seeourfrontliners
I’m so thrilled you’re interested in taking portraits and highlighting frontliner and essential workers in your community. Please fill in the form below so we can have a database of all the photographers joining this project, shedding light on, and giving a voice to all workers out there during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Guidelines and tips below:
Step 1) Create a web page
Add all the details about your #SeeOurFrontliners portrait project, what is it, how you will go about it.
You are welcome to use inspiration from my page here: https://www.stephanieewens.com/frontliners
Consider having your subjects sign a photo release before the shoot. I do this through hellosign.com, an online signature service.
I am giving subjects a 5x7 matted print as a thank you, but there is no need for you to do that.
I am applying for grants and approaching organizations that would like to fund the project to pay for my own time and my own supplies.
Step 2) Find 4-5 people to photograph so that you can kick of the project with images
Once you have 4-5 portraits, post on social media and ask friends to share and spread the word. Please follow @seeourfrontliners on Instagram. When you post online, if you could tag #SeeOurFrontliners, #SeeOurFrontliners(your state or country’s abbreviations- example for Rhode Island- #SeeOurFrontlinersRI) and me, @stephanie.ewens.photography as the creator of the project, I would be so appreciative. That way we can have a growing database of all the photographs included in the project. My hope is to file this in the Library of Congress as a part of historical record. If you’re talking to local media, please mention you heard about the project from me, a photographer in Rhode Island. Thank you!
STEP 3) Start scheduling shoots
I use calendly.com, a scheduling system that lets me to determine the hours I’m shooting and allows people to sign up quickly, a paid service that I already had in place for my business. I usually photograph 3-4 times a week, in two hour chunks. But do whatever makes the most sense for you and your schedule. Take into account editing/posting time as well.
STEP 4) keep a spreadsheet
Use a spreadsheet to keep information all in one place and to stay organized. I keep all contact info there, as well as how they heard about the project.
Good luck and please keep in touch to let me know how it’s going!
You can reach me at stephanie@stephanieewens.com or message me through instagram @stephanie.ewens.photography.
Thank you!
